WhichPLM is delighted to publish our 2019 Supplier Evaluation of Gerber Technology’s YuniquePLM. Last evaluated in 2016, we’re thrilled to have re-evaluated one of the apparel industry’s longest-running technology businesses.
Gerber Technology’s executives describe their mission as being to “clothe the world,” using their integrated portfolio of technologies to allow its customers, both inside and outside the apparel industry, to compete in “an on-demand world”.
From a PLM perspective, the latest figures we hold suggest that Gerber Technology has 258 customers (of which 21 were added in the fiscal year 2018/19) and an active user base of more than 41,000, making YuniquePLM the second-most-popular PLM platform when judged by customer numbers.
This statistic is often surprising to brands and retailers who are evaluating the PLM marketplace, because despite the length of time Gerber Technology has been operating, its mindshare in the PLM industry has not always been equal to its actual impact. Or to put it bluntly: people tend to forget about Gerber Technology when they think about pure PLM.
This lack of PLM awareness was a challenge we identified at the time of our last Evaluation (in May 2016) and one that the Gerber Technology team set out to solve in three different, but complementary, ways:
- By making cloud-native PLM accessible and affordable for as wide an audience as possible.
- By overhauling the YuniquePLM user experience.
- By pursuing “seamless data integration from design to cut room” – something that would both appeal to new customers and provide an onramp for users of Gerber Technology’s hardware or non-PLM software to get into PLM.
