Lectra solutions encourage creativity and help prepare future fashion professionals

Rebecca - winner gothic romanceUnited Kingdom, March 30 2016 – Lectra, the world leader in integrated technology solutions dedicated to industries using fabrics, leather, technical textiles and composite materials, has recently organized with UK Fashion schools a design contest for students using Kaledo® , Lectra’s innovative design solution. The project gave students the opportunity to design and create a print or textile to visualize a new fabric on an existing product using the texture mapping ‘Draper’ tool.

The competition was recently judged by industry experts from M&S, Fulton Umbrellas and the Textile Institute. Students were asked to explore the creative process from conception to final product using Kaledo. They were encouraged to be experimental whist ensuring their submissions reflected a professional standard. Students were required to complete moodboards, sketch books, print designs, product specification sheets and final examples of products with print texture mapping. The entries were judged on creativity, innovation and application.

The first prize winner Rebecca Walker’s entry was titled ‘Gothic Romance’ and said of the competition; “I am really thrilled to win this competition I found the solution really user-friendly and it was an excellent tool to help me present my visuals.” Rebecca is currently studying BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Production at Glasgow Kelvin College.

Natalie Ansell, Print Designer from M&S stated that Rebecca’s print designs were to M&S’s handwriting and demonstrated strong hand and digital design. Also commenting that the breadth and quality of research was of a professional standard.
