Lectra partners with F&F to support a Modaris® 3D competition

3D technology helps students visualize style and fit without the need of a toile 

United Kingdom, 8th July 2016 – Lectra, the world leader in integrated technology solutions dedicated to industries using fabrics, leather, technical textiles and composite materials, has recently partnered with Tesco’s fashion brand F&F to hold a design and pattern cutting competition with school partner Arts University Bournemouth.

Students in their second year of the BA (Hons) Fashion degree were asked to design, pattern cut and make a final garment for the F&F Signature occasionwear range. Students were required to create a dress or a one piece for Autumn/ Winter 2016 which was to be designed for the F&F customer. The pattern was created using Lectra Modaris® 3D and a lay plan of the final garment was also required using Diamino®, Lectra marker-making solution, to calculate fabric utilisation and to ensure the cost was in line with F&F’s price point. The designs were virtualized in 3D to allow students to make decisions without the need of producing a toile and therefore eliminating the time taken to create the initial sample.

The winning student Jennifer Neupauer’s long evening dress design was selected by Ben Lee, Head of Design and Lucy Rollason Head of Buying at F&F. It was chosen for the great use of layers, shape and style details which really spoke the F&F customer.

As part of the prize Jennifer Neupauer will have her winning design produced and sold online at F&F for Christmas 2016 and also a month’s placement at F&F’s head office.

“As an ex student, it’s been great to work with my university (AUB) again. It’s been a pleasure holding the competition on behalf of F&F and collaborating with Lectra. I believe it is great to connect industry with universities and give the students an opportunity to show their skills, not only that but push them to develop and think about things in an industry way. It’s been a pleasure and big congratulations to the winner Jennifer who has shown a great understanding of the brief and excelled with the pattern work and construction of her portfolio,” explained Alexa Hedges, Pattern Technologist at F&F.

“The competition has been a great experience for me and I am very grateful for the opportunity. It has been exciting to explore my skills in both Lectra and my ability to adapt my creations to a brand and develop a model ready for mass production Lectra saves a lot of time, and material as you are working virtually, and Modaris 3D has helped me in every project to ensure that my illustration is identical to my pattern without having to toile over and over again,” said Jennifer Neupauer.

“Hard work and dedication went into the project with some outstanding results. This is the second time that Lectra has given us the opportunity to organise a competition with one of its customers.
