Polimoda: New Educational Centre for Porini

0

(PORINI, SEPTEMBER 02, 2009) Porini has a New Partner in the Educational sector: Polimoda, an international fashion, design, and marketing Institute.Polimoda is an Italian Centre of Learning Excellence, recognized internationally for the high quality of its fashion-oriented teaching.

For the time being, the collaboration starts with supplying one of the Porini solutions marketed in Italy to support its Visual Merchandising software. The solution has been developed by a Dutch company, Visual Retailing BV, which chose Porini to distribute its product on the basis of its acknowledged skills in the field. With this operation, Porini and Visual Retailing have donated about €680,000 in software licenses to allow students to get to use cutting-edge, three-dimensional Visual Merchandising technology. Students will then have the chance to use the software even once school is over and during their internship with companies in the field. This technology makes it possible to set up virtual shops with their own collections.

Based at Villa Strozzi in Florence, Polimoda came into being in 1986, born out of a project spearheaded and funded by the municipalities of Florence and Prato, by trade associations in conjunction with the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) of New York’s State University. Since March 2006 its President has been Ferruccio Ferragamo, chairman of the corporation by the same name.

In January 2007 Linda Loppa was appointed Director of the Institute to pursue and develop this project. Internationally renowned for her solid fashion-based background, professional skills and creative abilities, Linda Loppa has succeeded in revamping the image of the Institute and revised the teaching syllabuses of Polimoda in a bid for ever greater quality, research and creativity.

Over 950 students (40% of whom from abroad), more than 90% of whom are employed within 6 months from graduating, are the numbers produced by the Institute to showcase the success of a learning process that focuses on all the professional figures required in the fashion industry, also thanks to a highly-trained faculty with experience in key positions in the business.
Besides professional figures more closely linked to design and manufacturing, there are in fact professionals geared towards communication, marketing and management of the companies in this sector. Polimoda is the Institute most qualified to guarantee across-the-board training to tomorrow’s fashion industry workers.

The ongoing exchange with companies represents the added value of Polimoda, which is able to organize courses framed upon curricula geared to training all-round professionals. They shall be called upon to start operating successfully in the fashion world and in all positions connected with it. At the end of their studies, in fact, students are likely to be employed in companies of undisputed international renown, such as: Conte of Florence, Ferragamo, Gucci, La Perla, La Rinascente, Patrizia Pepe, Tod’s, etc.

Since 2002 the Institute’s activities has been further enhanced by Polimoda Srl – a company led by Santo Versace – a consultancy for business in the fashion sector, specialized in international recruitment and ongoing staff training through industry-specific business projects.

The software will be used throughout the courses for the Master in Fashion Visual Merchandising program, set to begin in October 2009.
